I'm not bashing. I served 25 years in various volunteer departments around the country. Each one had it's good and not so good sides. I did notice one fellow that didn't seem to know what to do. He was backing up the nozzleman who seemed to be very irritated with him. I don't know if that was lack of training or he was very new. Here in NC, new members must go through several layers of training before they can even be on the fire ground. I hear there are new changes coming down OSHA. This could have serious consequences for volunteer departments already suffering from membership. All in all, a good job.

Good example of why a 3 person crew takes longer to get the job done - with 4, the driver/operator could have spent his time getting the water flowing instead of stretching hose.

I don't like to armchair fire from watching a video but I think this fire probably got out of hand and the amount of manpower just simply wasn't adequate You could tell firefighters are either super out of shape or they were simply spent with no fuel in the tank? The only thing I questioned was them landing a helicopter this close to a structure fire that still had active burning occurring. In other words fanning the flames. Otherwise, all I know is there were a few of firefighters that i would have been concerned about! I would have gotten their gear doffed and to rehab!

I too could not believe that this fire could not have been knocked down in a matter of minutes upon arrival. I truly hope this is a volunteer department and not a paid department. Seriously need a change of command and more training as well as motivation.
